Happy Halloween! EDC 203 Assignment #3 Language Arts Game Sites Wiki Samantha BodgeSeptember 30, 20101) Website: Game ClassroomGame: Alphabet SoupURL:http://www.gameclassroom.com/game/31609-3557/syllables-second-grade/alphabet-soupLevel: 2nd gradeTopic: Learning syllables Summary of the Site:Game classroom stands out against other sites because it breaks down the games by grade. This makes it easier for teachers trying to selct a game for their class. There are many subcategories of language arts games, including reading comprehension, grammar, words and spelling, vocab, writing, and others. Before you click on each game, it gives written instructions, then once you click play, a narrator explains the directions as well. Once criticism that I would have for the main page is that it has a lot of wording which might be a little overwhelming to a child.Summary of the Game: This is a fill in the blank game. When you click play, there is a picture of a bowl of soup. The narrator says the joke which is also in text above the soup (i.e. Where do the snowmen go to dance?) Then letters appear in the soup. These letters are the answer to the joke but they are scrambled, and the child must click on them in order to complete the joke.a. Color- The use of color in this game is adequate. There is blue menu bar with polka dots on the top, and the rest of the page is orange with vertical stripes. It is very eye catching. When you click on each of the letters in the soup in the correct order, they disappear and then reappear red where the answer to the joke goes.b. Repetition- After you complete the word, the narrator repeats the joke and answer.c. Talking Text- There is a cartoon lion that appears at the beginning of the game, but he does not reappear for the rest of the game. His voice is heard reading the joke. d. Visual Cues- There are no visual cues.e. Mistakes- There are no mistakes in the game.f. Rating- This game does allow the player to rate it.g. Highlighted Cues- Once the letters are chosen in the right order, the answer is in red.h. Navgation Routine- To start, there is a "play" button, then after you complete the joke, there is an arrow to play again that says "more laughs".i. Click back and back- It does not allow you to click back.j. Click and drag- There is no click and drag in this game. *My rating- 6 2) Website: KidportGame: Missing Letters of the AlphabetURL: http://www.kidport.com/Grade1/LanguageArts/Workbook/Lang1_MissingAlpha.htmLevel: 1st gradeTopic: AlphabetSummary of the Site: Kidport is a language arts website for children in grades K-8.
